Who we are

Food Matters is a not-for-profit company founded in 2002, and operates as a social enterprise. Our work is overseen and supported by a group of eight Directors, all of whom have considerable experience in the voluntary, public and academic sectors in fields related to the core work of Food Matters.

Most of our work is undertaken by our founder Directors:

Clare Devereux
Clare had worked for many years on food related projects in both the commercial and voluntary sector. Her experience covers a range of issues including organic production, sustainability, GM crops, consumer attitudes, local food systems and democratic processes. She worked for many years in the hospitality sector, and ran a corporate Organic Catering Company, before moving into food policy. Clare has worked for Charter 88, the Green Party, and the Genetic Engineering Alliance.

Anna Watson
Anna has wide experience of local sustainability and social justice work, and has particular expertise in the area of food poverty, food access, local food networks and associated UK policy. Anna has co-ordinated a successful local food network, and worked for Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming on the Food Poverty Project, leading research into UK food poverty policy.

Victoria Williams
Victoria's expertise centres on food poverty and food access issues, in particular the effect of national policies on local food initiatives. She has experience of a wide range of issues related to sustainable food systems. Victoria is a founding Director of Food Matters, and prior to that she worked for Sustain for five years, during which time she co-ordinated the Food Poverty Project.

Food Matters works with a wider pool of professionals with skills in a range of relevant disciplines including agriculture, nutrition, food advertising, children's foods, local procurement and consumer research. We are able to draw on this pool of staff to contribute to relevant projects as appropriate.
