Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg.

Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg. is a programme designed by Food Matters and managed with the Alexandra Rose Charity and is a practical response to the very real stress and long-term damage caused to people’s health and wellbeing by an inadequate diet.

The Rose Vouchers for Fruit and Veg. is a scheme to support pregnant women and young families to buy and eat more fruit and vegetables and to take part in activities that make sense for the health and happiness of both parents and their young children. Using the existing Healthy Start voucher scheme as a way of reaching those women and families, the scheme supports behaviour change interventions and activities alongside providing vouchers that can be exchanged for fruit and vegetables at a range of local and neighbourhood food outlets including fruit and veg. stalls in street markets. By locating the Rose Voucher registration and distribution at Children’s Centres the scheme supports participants’ engagement with existing interventions and activities focused on health and wellbeing.

The project is currently run in Hackney, Lambeth, Hammersmith & Fulham and Barnsley, and is soon to be rolled out in Liverpool.

“The Rose Voucher scheme is supporting families living in low income neighbourhoods by providing additional support to buy fresh fruit and vegetables at a crucial time in children’s development. It is boosting the local economy by supporting neighbourhood street markets, stalls and vegetable box schemes. This is good for families and good for communities and good for local economic development.”

“The Rose Vouchers have really impacted positively in my life. I was lonely when I had my baby and didn’t have much money, but when I started coming to the Children’s Centre, I met friends and the Rose Vouchers helped me financially”                                                                                   – Participant – Jubilee Children’s Centre, Lambeth
