Re-imagining how a food partnership can work to ensure local people and communities are at the heart of a flourishing sustainable healthy food landscape.

The Covid pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis and the ongoing pressure on statutory and voluntary sector organisations has changed the Lambeth food landscape.  The Food Partnership has embarked on a process to bring more people and organisations together.

Food Matters is providing consultancy support to the Lambeth Food Partnership (LFP) working group.  The process will re-energise the partnership with the ambition that a robust partnership emerges. This work has involved working with Lambeth Public Health staff, Lambeth Food Partnership members and others involved and interested in good food in Lambeth through a re-development and renewal phase.

Food Matters provided mentoring, facilitation, food partnership governance expertise, facilitated online and face-to-face meetings, signposted and shared resources.

  • Collaboration and convening are key to good partnership working – LFP to ensure good representation to be the authentic voice of the network, to hold the space and represent the food community at strategic and policy level.
  • Bringing people together over food provides the social element of connection – LFP will continue to increase understanding and raise awareness across Lambeth communities through social food activities.
  • Good food governance is crucial but be proportionate to the task in hand – Start with the simplest of governance structures and grow as needed.
  • Don’t confuse governance with legal structures – what you are verses how you do it!
  • Understanding the food system is crucial to measure progress – Lambeth Food Partnership should take the lead on mapping the food systems, by gathering data and providing infrastructure support.
