Food does matter if we want to create a more secure, healthy, and rehabilitative environment in prison. Our new ‘Food Matters in Prisons’ briefing highlights how food can improve prison life, and where opportunities already exist for this work to happen.

Food is a powerful tool that can aid rehabilitation and can directly influence our physical and mental health.

We work with people inside the criminal justice system and disadvantaged groups outside, to help them make better food choices.

Our focus is on the positive role food can play in normalising life in prisons and support a rehabilitative culture inside and out.

“Having a healthier diet helps me to improve my self-esteem, because I’m being more caring of my body. It helps me to deal with depression and other negative emotions.”
