At Food Matters, we provide expert facilitation services tailored for organisations, community groups, and social movements.
What we do
We draw upon 20+ years of experience engaging in conversations around food to facilitate strategic conversations and bring in multiple – and diverse – voices into the conversation, which helps uncover new perspectives. In particular, we have expertise in supporting people with lived experience of marginalisation to feel comfortable to joining in the conversation, which leads to richer and more meaningful meetings, workshops, and discussions.
Participatory Facilitation
We specialise in participatory facilitation—a process that ensures the people most impacted by decisions are actively involved in shaping them. This inclusive approach champions the idea that people are experts in their own lives and uses community development approaches to amplify their voices. That’s why, in any workshop or event that we facilitate, we make sure we really listen to, and understand, our stakeholders and participants, and involve them in the design of the workshops they will be attending.
Why do I need a facilitator?
Facilitators bring structure, neutrality and focus to conversations that matter. When you’re working with diverse groups, tackling complex challenges, or trying to build consensus, it’s easy for voices to get lost or for discussions to lose direction. A skilled facilitator creates the conditions for open, productive dialogue—so that everyone feels heard, power dynamics are balanced, and decisions are made with greater clarity and buy-in. And when people are empowered to participate in policies and decision making, meaningful change happens.
