“My diet’s become more diverse because Freya taught us it’s important to eat a variety of plants… I’m eating a lot healthier now”- Marginalised Young Person- Sow Cook Thrive
Last year we produced 6500+ copies of the magazine ‘Her Wellbeing’, supporting women in English and Welsh prisons to improve their mental and physical health.
“I look forward to Her Wellbeing, as they are always full of interesting info to help me live a healthy life in prison. It makes me change things I do to be physically & mentally healthy.”
In 2025 we supported 150 key prison stakeholders and staff members to help make food an integral part of rehabilitation and to promote healthier eating in prisons.

Process
20 years ago, we created the blueprint for improving how we consume, share and produce food, when we developed the UK’s first food strategy and partnership. Since then, with our support, over 120 places have followed suit.
We provide strategic support and evaluation for food partnerships, projects and local authorities. Our latest support for Central Bedfordshire Council Included a report with 20+ tailored recommendations for moving towards a sustainable food future.
“Food Matters expertise ensured we brought partners along with us, and the feasability report gave us justification and rationale for progressing the work.”- Central Bedfordshire Council Public Health Team
Through designing and delivering bespoke food systems training to local authorities, we help food partnerships and community organisations create lasting change.
“Fantastic learning journey that helped develop my skills and knowledge which has in turn helped our newly formed food network create a vision and mission for the future.”- Food Roots Participant
We provide facilitation of workshops, meetings and focus groups.
“We had a great learning exchange…the facilitator created great interactive activities that drew out excellent insights and provided expert evaluation afterwards, so we can… improve our project.”-Food Partnership- Project Manager
